CRB Guidance

Entry to some programmes of study at York St John University requires applicants to meet non-academic conditions.  Where such conditions are routine, they are specified in course literature and are part of the standard entry requirements.  One of these conditions is completion of a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) Enhanced Disclosure application.  The CRB Disclosure application form will be sent to you if you are successful at the interview stage and receive a conditional offer from York St John.  For further details on the CRB please visit their website - www.crb.gov.uk.

Information on how the University manages the CRB procedures and the consideration of applications with criminal convictions is set out in the University policy Admissions of Students and Criminal Conviction.  Applications from candidates with criminal convictions will be carefully considered.  Applicants must, upon request, provide full details of the conviction.  The University retains the right to refuse entry to any applicant with a criminal conviction which may jeopardise the security, safety or reputation of the University or its community, or where there are relevant professional criteria which apply.

Applicants also need to be aware that if they have spent longer than three months out of the UK in the last five years then as well as applying for a CRB Enhanced Disclosure they will also need to obtain a Police Check or other CRB equivalent to cover the time spent overseas.  This is due to the CRB not having access to overseas criminal records as part of its Disclosure service.  For further details on this please visit either the CRB website (www.crb.gov.uk/overseas) or the Foreign and Commonwealth Office website (www.fco.gov.uk).

CRB Disclosure interview procedure

In accordance with the Criminal Record Bureau Code of Practice we are now required to verify identity when accepting identification documents for your CRB Enhanced Disclosure application.

Therefore, we are now completing an identification form at your interview in order that we can verify any photographic identification provided is a true likeness of yourself.

The information provided on this form will be held by York St John University in a secure environment until such a time as a decision is made as to whether you are to be offered a place on the programme of your choice.  If you are made an offer, the actual CRB Disclosure application form will be sent out to you, and you will be able to complete it and return it to us, whereby we will be able to complete the form with the ID already held on file.  If you are not made an offer the information will be destroyed.

If you have any queries please contact Admissions on T: 01904 876598 or E: admissions@yorksj.ac.uk
