Writing - people who can help
Individual help from Language Support
- For help with writing English – especially vocabulary, grammar
and spelling - just email languagesupport@yorksj.ac.uk.
- Please remember, we cannot check your assignments before you
hand them in: this is against the university's rules.
However, we can (a) check work which we have given
you and (b) check work which your tutor has already assessed
(you need to show us the assessment from your tutor).
- We have a programme of workshops you may be interested in
(details here).
The university's Study Development service
- They have a programme of workshops (click
here for details) which you can book by contacting the Student
Advice Team in Holgate (01904 876477).
- They also offer 1:1 appointments but there is usually a waiting
list.
Individual help with content and style in your writing
There are two people you can see about your writing content and
style on a 1:1 basis - I'd suggest seeing one but not
both.
- The University normally has a Royal Literary Fund Writer in
Residence who can help with essays and dissertations, not just
creative writing. The new Writer in Residence, Neil Hanson,
joins the University in September. When he starts, you can
contact him at rlfappointments@yorksj.ac.uk.
- The Study Development people (see above) also offer 1:1
appointments, but there is usually a waiting list.
