I’m often told by applicants that 4000
characters are not enough to express their interest in a course.
They’re unable to fit in the section about the time they went on
holiday to Cornwall or the summer they grew strawberries.

We have held a series of events on how to stand out in your personal
statement for students, teachers and parents in Sheffield,
Newcastle, Hull, Leeds and Nottingham over the past month. Some had
started writing their personal statement and some had not yet
visited the UCAS website but all were surprised by the easy
mistakes that people made in the real examples we showed them.

one! York St John University gets 14 applicants for every one place
on its
Primary Education degree – and applicants have a number of
hoops to jump through including both a group and individual
interview.
