Honorary Fellows 2007
Andrew Motion - British Poet
Laureate, awarded an Honorary Fellowship. Andrew Motion
was honoured for his outstanding contribution to British culture.
His achievements to poetry are considerable, culminating in his
appointment as Poet Laureate and his contribution to literary
scholarship is evident in his acclaimed biographies of Larkin and
Keats. Andrew Motion’s contribution to higher education, through
his work with universities around the UK, is also highly
regarded.
Gareth Rees - former Principal of
Askham Bryan College, was awarded an Honorary Fellowship from York
St John University for his outstanding contribution to education
and global development. Professor Rees was an Expert Advisor
to the World Health Organisation, the European Union, and European
Parliament and the United States Environmental Protection Agency on
recreational and water quality issues. He was also a Researched
Programme Adviser to the UK Food Standards
Agency.
Margaret Winchcombe - presented with an
Honorary Fellowship from York St John University for her services
to health and social care, in particular for her research into
environmental issues for disabled people. Winchcombe is the former
Chair of Assist UK and was an advocate for client centred practice.
She is widely respected for her commentary on the client disabled
experience.
Yuichiro Nakagawa - received an Honorary
Fellowship from York St John. Professor Nakagawa has had close
links to York St John University for a number of years, enabling
the provision of the delivery of York St John University’s MA
programme in International Studies at Meiji University in Tokyo.
Nakagawa has also formed links between York St John University and
other institutions in Japan and has played a pivotal role and made
a significant personal contribution in fostering links between the
University and partner organisations in Japan.
